MONDAY 5TH JUNE, PIAZZETTA REALE, H. 12:00 pm

This year, the Festival renews its historical collaboration with the Department of Education of Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, presenting together with Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto e CIAL – Consorzio Nazionale Imballaggi Alluminio (National Consortium of Aluminium Packaging), the installation ANTIMATTER_STONE, by the artist Sebastiano Pelli.

Hosted for the occasion in the prestigious Piazzetta Reale thanks to the precious collaboration with Musei Reali Torino, the installation, as a great collective oper-Action, fits on the path of the participatory project of Terzo Paradiso by Michelangelo Pistoletto, among the greatest supporters of art as the driving force of a social responsible transformation. The project initiated in 2003 and was pursued by the Department of Education of Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea through several initiatives aimed at spreading the culture of sustainability among the youngest generations.

In fact, it will be the youngest people, in particular the students of some Turin’s secondary schools, who will initiate the oper-Action with the inaugural performance (Monday June 5th, 12 pm). During the performance a 400 meters aluminium coil, supplied by CIAL, will be unrolled around the sculpture forming the symbol of the Third Paradise, reshaping of the mathematical symbol for infinity.

ANTIMATTER_STONE by Sebastiano Pelli is part of an itinerant exhibition project, edited by Francesco Saverio Teruzzi and Alessio Vigni, which was fully redesigned for the event in Turin. Also covered in alluminium – flexible, reflective and endlessly recyclable material – the sculpture will have a hollow structure “to contain an urgent and global problem”, as the artist explain, “offering at the same time a solution”.

ANTIMATTER_STONE, through welcoming waste material, is symbolically transformed in another space-time in order to imagine “ a new world: participated, responsible and sustainable”, proposing innovative solutions to the environmental matter and, above all, triggering a new awareness starting with young people.

ANTIMATTER_STONE won the Sustainability Art Prize during ART CITY Bologna and it is a part of a wider educational program on environmental sustainability and material reuse.
