SALA 3
4 P.M.
The focus of this program section is cinematic language in science communication. Owing to its dynamics and immediacy, cinema can render complex content accessible without compromising scientific rigor. The films illustrate different approaches to communicating science.
Emilio Mancuso, president of Verdeacqua, marine biologist, underwater documentarist, and scientific communicator for Water Defenders Alliance, presents the documentary Marine Animal Forests.
Marine Animal Forests di Pietro Formis e Emilio Mancuso (Italia 2025, 25’)
Marine forests are home to many still-unknown organisms; they are inhabited by animals essential for maintaining balance in marine ecosystems and life in general. Often, however, we are unaware of the resources and benefits we derive from so-called ecosystem services. The film portrays marine forests and their inhabitants, as told by scientists, muscle farmers, and underwater guides who work there. The film is part of science communication by the Water Defenders Alliance initiative coordinated by LifeGate and sponsored by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo under the Re:Azioni grant.
Following the documentary, four short videos made by the students in the FI(na)LMENTE project will be shown and presented by Silvia De Marchis, Francesco Ferrini, and Ilaria Gabbatore from the project’s scientific committee.
