FRIDAY 6 JUNE
CIRCOLO DEI LETTORI
10:00 A.M.

Media and cultural production has increasingly used dystopic settings to represent possible worlds where human fears, problems, and contradictions feed into uncertainty about the future and revisit and rework past trauma. This global phenomenon takes myriad shapes and means of communication.

The research project entitled “L’Atlante delle distopie mediali” conducted at the Università Cattolica di Milano presents a map of dystopias (production sites and narrative locations), the point of view and the rhetoric used to narrate these worlds, and the space-time dimensions. The map illustrates the variety of genres and languages with which dystopia is described, the connections and contaminations.

Speakers
Jessica Woodworth, film director
Bruno Surace, researcher at the Department of Humanistic Studies, Università di Torino
Mattia Galli, PhD student at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, School of Foreign Languages and Literature, Department of Communication Science and Theater, media analyst at Ce.R.T.A.
