Blue Thread is an artistic study of a cover pulled over the Presena glacier to protect it from melting. For 5 months every year, the Consorzio Ponte di Legno – Tonale covers the glacier not to save it but rather to slow its retreat. In 2020 under the heat of the July sun, Anne spent several days filming her documentary Earth Protectors. The sight of a covered glacier has a certain impact. A novel landscape that elicited the awareness that she was witnessing something physically and visually new, which scientists call the Anthropocene. Thus her work was created – a series of 26 images – featuring a blue thread that ties the cover together. Looking at the images, an observer proceeds beyond the physical documentation of a covered glacier to a visual experience beyond space and time. The blue thread symbolizes adversity and continuity: the end of a decadent era and the hope and resilience of the human species.
